Have you recently begun playing disc golf? While disc golf is a ton of fun and very addicting, it can also be frustrating starting out when the disc doesn’t do what you want it to do! You’ve tried watching YouTube videos and getting advice from your friends that introduced you to the game, but your throwing doesn’t seem to be improving the way you would like it to. If this is the case for you, you’re probably not using the best disc golf discs for you.
You’re likely playing with a disc that is “too fast” for your arm speed. It’s normal for you to see a professional throw a crazy drive, and then you want to use that same disc to do the same thing. You grip it and rip it, but it doesn’t go far and tails off to the side. If this is the case I have two recommendations for you. Number 1: You’re using the wrong disc for your arm speed. Talk to a disc golf store and they’d be happy to find you a disc that will be the best disc golf disc for you. Number 2: Try throwing more in a straight line instead of aiming upwards. Disc Golf discs are not the Frisbees that you grew up throwing on the beach. They’re quite technical and are designs to throw more in a straight direction instead of upwards. When you throw in an upward direction, you’re using the forward momentum on waisted height instead of distance.
